Question 7- Looking back at your prliminary task, what do you feel you have learned in the progression from it to the full product?

This is our match cut preliminary, and it is clear that our skills here were not as advanced as they were in the final movie.

This is our movie and it is clear that we have improved with our range of camera angles and shots. We have also learnt how to add credits and sound.

Evaluation: Question 2 comparing similarities and differences in shots

One of the shots above is from our thriller (demented) and the other is from the film we were inspired by (seven) . in the thriller opening of seven there is someones hand writing whilst the effect on the shot over laps it and makes it blurry, we tried to capture this same effect as we thought it was very effective. although we tried to capture it exactly it didn't work considering seven used professional cameras and editors, their shots are quicker and the opening is faster paced than ours.

Q2 How does your media product represent particular social groups?

i have decided to compare these two still shots because they are similar to eacheother. 'Se7en' is the only film that uses close ups to the extent of every detail. The two revolting shots i have decided to compare have an effect on people which will cause them to gasp at every still image.
In se7en they have chosen to get a picture and film it as a part of their movie, similarly we have decided to do the same.
The differences between the two still shots is the camera shots in which it is recorded, our shot is more of an ariel shot, so that we are able to see almost all of the picture. Our still image is the second one, and the first shot is a bit different in terms camera shots, Se7en's one is more of a shot from the side which makes it different.
This tells us that the person is quite deranged and has quite a few problems with themselves, the fact that the character is cutting and sticking pictures of dead bodies suggests to us that the characters might like deadly things and is a weird person.

This is another shot that i have decided to compare again, from the film 'Se7en'.
The still shots are very effective because they contain the cross dissolve which makes the film much more interesting in a sense that it creates effect on the subject.
The differences between the two shots are that, the first one which is our group is of the character turning the pages, the cross dissolve adds the effect because it makes it look more realistic and much spookier. The same as 'Se7en' but the character is writing.

Question 2-How does your media product represent particular social groups

These are still images, one of them is from our movie 'Demented' and the other still is from the movie which inspired us when we were making our film 'Se7en'. Our still image is our character with cellotape and about to cellotape something whilst the other image is only a picture of hands doing something. I chose these because they are opposites of each other.
We tried to make the mies en scene look the same by using lighting to darken the whole room and only add emphasis to the characters hands, this was also affective because that would add a nice shadow affect. Our product is not specific to one kind of social group, we think that people will like our film for their own individual reasons, although the most popular audience will be young people who would probably like to get a fright

Evaluation: Question 5, Who would be the audience for your media product

Someone from our target audience would be... Aron! as you can see above.

Aron is 17 and is a stereotype of a moody teenage rebel... yhhhh!, he doesn't work doesn't clean, doesn't do chores, he actually doesn't do much other than eat and sleep, he's a skateboarder and loves pulling an Ollie or two in his spare time, hanging out with mates and late night parties are his sort of thing, he loves the colour black and gelling his hair till it looks plastic.. awesome!, he's cheap as ever and the money that he does get will be spent on "totally cool stuff" like booze and tobacco. skinny jeans and spikes on clothing is the kind of thing Aron here likes to wrap himself in, not my cup of tea but hey. on an ordinary day you might find this kinda stuff in Arons bag:

Question 5- Who would be the audience for your media product

These are the typical items you would find in the bag of one of our main target audiences. Martin is a young employe who works at H&M and is really outgoing and active. He loves to go out and take part in various sports. He is also up to date with all technologies and gadgets. He is 21 and is studying at university. The lucozade shows that he is energetic and the iphone and watch shows his knowledge of gadgets. He is a thrill enthusiast so he would be the perfect person to come and watch our film.

Q1 In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge, forms and conventions of a real media products

The images on the left hand corner are from our film and se7en we edited them together in photoshop to create a nine shot title sequence Our film Demented is inspired by Se7en, it featured a lot of close ups and abstract images. There was a character but his identity was not revealed in the opening and that is what we tried to imitate, Our film had the opening title inbetween the images rather than during the images unlike Se7en.

We both used similar camera shots and tried to shoot our clips from different angles, we had a lot of extreme close ups and tried to also give a garish-horror kind of view.
Editing in Se7en is quite quick and sharp however ours is slow paced and doesnt have any sharp cuts, we didnt have exactly the same shots as se7en but we achieved the idea of the extreme close ups and was really effective.
For example the first two pictures you can see the image of se7en with the book and our image with the book and the unknown characters hand with an extreme close up on it, showing we produced a clear annotation of the image we were trying to create.
We tried to create something ambiguous that had a sense of not knowing what was happening in the opening of the film just like se7en creating a mood of suspense

Question 3&4

This is a student film called 'Genesis' it has had 13,737 hits. This is a low budget videos like ours and it can only be released over the internet on videos sharing sites such as YouTube. Because it has bin released over the internet people all over the world can see and that is how you get a video distributed to a wide audience without paying money or getting people to sponsor you. You can watch student movies from anywhere you are whether it be from the comfort of your home on your computer, or on the bus on the way to work on your phone. This film is similar to ours in that it is a thriller which has a slight hint of horror and that is why i think our film will get alot of hits, i also think this because with the help of friends and family spreading the word through word of mouth and other the internet it can be a big film.

Q2 How does your media product represnt particular socail groups?

The image above is from our thriller Demented and the one beneath it from Se7en, as you can see the image is quite disturbing because you can see the unknown character crossing out a young girls face representing that the characters social group falls under disturbed and troubled people.
These two shots are very similar their both have extreme close ups my group tried to immitate these aspects of camerawork to create that spooky effect, trying to capture the same effect se7en did in the film.
I believe that we achieved this successfully, as you can see the still image is the same as our still image expect for theres being with a black background faded out and ect, but we conveyed the idea perfectly to suit our film.
The two shots are suggesting that these two characters are innocent victims of a serial killer who is deranged because of the crossing out of the child's face showing that the unknown character has childhood issues that takes it out on innocent young children.
Giving away fear and uncertainty which creates a sense of the character being mad person and a phycopath.

Q3&4 What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

Q 3&4. What kid of media intitution might distribute your media product and why? How will your attract/address your audience?

Similar to ours, this is a low-budget thriller opening filmed which has been released on the interent via youtube where thousands of user browse almost every single day. This is a perfect example of how distrubution of videos (baring in mind the film had no cost to make it) can become so popular to the nation which could easily gain audiences from world wide.
the fact that we put our work up on youtube, allows us to be able to also put it on other networking sites like Facebook,Vimeo,Myspace and Twitter, this way we can get as much hits for the video, get popular and we just might be able to get picked up if our video is good enough. Our friends and Family too will help us with the distrubution and promotion. This video recieved 1,253, i think that we could infact hit that target or even higher, because of the simple fact that our generation is moving so fast with all the technologies that are being made and the people supporting.

Q5. Who would be the audience for your media product?

Martin, Aged 21
works as a builder in the weekdays and absolutely loves his job. In his spare time he likes to go out and collect things such as cans, insects, and things people would normally call rubbish. He describe himself as humble but very different from normal people and so he doesnt really stand out. He shops in places like camden market. He lives in essex and prefferes to be alone at most times.

Q6 what have you learned about technologies

Evaluation: Question 3 & 4 institution and audiences

This video like ours is a low budget thriller which will only be released over the Internet on websites like Vimeo and YouTube, the video has probably been shown to classmates, family and friends and received the same sort of feedback ours has. through the medium of Internet the video has managed to reach a much wider audience allowing people all over the world to watch and give feedback through comments. where as 15 - 20 years ago you could about watch it on VHS or just a computer, our generation is used to new technology. In comparison we are an independent company and release our movie over the Internet looking for global feedback, it can be posted and promoted on such sites as Facebook, Myspace, YouTube, Vimeo and twitter, these are just some of the main social networking and video sites people use, this allows us to reach a wider audience gaining more feedback and trying to get world wide recognition. we can attract an audience by word of mouth either by friends suggesting it or by trailers (teasers) appealing to the age group it is aimed at.

Fonts

Here are a few samples of fonts we were looking at for our film, the ones that appeal to me the most are Times New Roman because you can see it reprsents seriousness maturity attracting people from an older age group e.g. 17and over, Comic Sans Ms speaks for it self comic really childlike comic writing attracting a much younger age group for comic films or also can be for cheesey comedy films.
Impact also looks serious and something that i would like as a font in my film and Georigia nice and feminine but also serious at the same time very formal.
The other fonts are quite informal and dont attractive me like the others do.

How is suspense created in the film you watched in class?

Collateral is about a cab driver finding himself the hostage of an engaging contract killer as he makes his rounds from hit to hit during one night in the city of LA he must find a way to save himself and one last victim.

Collateral is an action based crime Thriller, the opening clip is set in an airport where a close up is taken of Tom Crusie's face represntaing that he is the main character.
Tom Cruise walks through the airpot at a slow pace in a grey suit, tinited shades and a brief case indicating he is of high importance and showing he is chilled and cool.
However the other man has fast pace footsteps showong the auidence that he is in a rush and wants to get to hid destination as quick as possiable, showing binary oppositions with non-digetic sound of a fast pace drum beat creating suspense and anxiety as it indicates to the auidence that something is going to haoppen.
When they finially meet eachother there is a match cut on the bag swap again creating suspense making the audience get really into the film wondering whats in the bag was it performed by perpose or was it a set up this now draws the audience into the film.
There is a over the shoulder shot of Tom Crusie allowing the audience to see from his perspective making it a very suspensful momenet because the auidence have not been introuced to the characters and are left wondering what is going to happen.

Events that inspire a Thriller film

Mother Charged With Toddlers Murder- A mother was charged of murdering two innocent toddlers and their bodies where found in a boot of a car

This is a good example for an event for a thriller as the film can show how she prepared and planned for the killing of the her children, which will convey suspense and the audience will get ecxited about the fact not knowing what is really going to happing to the children. when they find out eventually that she is going to kill them it will be tense and horrifying for the auidence to watch, aslo having sympathy for the two little kids making the fil quite intense.
The film can be about her crazy uncontrolled life that cant handle her own kids most probably a psycopath trying to kill her children because she cannot handle them she thinks that her childern are making her go mad but she is just delusional.
The film can have cross cuts between what she is doing and what the toddlers are doing, this can create a sense of how they are connected and give out clues that something extremley wrong will happen to the toddlers making the film really intense to watch, attracting the audience.

This will get the auidence on their toes eager to see if the delusional crazy mother is actually going to kill her two innocent children who are very pure and innocent playing with eachother and their toys also making the audience very sympathetic and the film quite scary and emotional for them.

How is Suspense Created In The Film United93

The film United93 is based on terrorist attacks that occured in America on september the 11th, 2001. Terrorists hijacked serveral planes, two of them hitting the World Trade Centre and one of them hitting the pentagon. One of the planes, United Flight Airlines93, did not succed to reached its target which was the white house, as the passengers on board managed to takeover the hijackers using force and crash into a feild in Shanksville Pennysylvaina.

The film achieves to create suspense really well in the film. However some other thrillers tend to take longer time to get the message of suspense across to the veiwers until the middle near end of the film not making it really effective.

Furthermore in United93 suspense is shown throughout the film getting the whole audience so intrigued and foucsed on whats going on also make the viewers anticipate on what is going to happen, making it very tense and unease for some viewers which makes it a good film.

Many features of the film contribute to this, for example when a air traffic control worker tries to contact the first plane to be hijacked, American 77 but dont scucced also with the hijackers of United93 looking quite mishevious and suspicious as they board the flight.

This lets the auidence no that something is not right and that something bad is going to happen on the plane, you can tell because the guy is really fidgety and sweats allot, making the audience pay closer attention to what is happening in the film at this point they ar focused on what they are watching.

There is also a good amount of non-diegetic sound, most prominate in the scene where the hijackers take over the plane, the music that is played over the scene changes the audiences emotion, as well as letting them no that the climax of the film is comming soon.

One important way the film is seen to create continuous suspense in a subliminal way is by the continuity use of sound. During the whole film there is alot of base sounds and drones which represent the upcoming disaster and terror that is awaiting them, and also the anxiety of the viewers. For example when the passengers are preparing to try and takeover the hijackers the tempo and the volume of the base and drones now increase which creates fear for the audience.

Evaluation: Question 8, group feedback and Wordle

This is a word cloud, in class everyone viewed our film and gave us written feedback, using a Wordle (word cloud) we managed to evaluate which words were used most frequently and what a sample of our target audience thought. the most frequent words used while evaluating our film was such words as Film, thriller, shots, editing, well, good and music judging by these key words we established that the audience liked the thriller and found a numerous amount of things good about it. This gave us a good idea of what people thought without having long sentences, the short words were really direct and straight to the point.

Types of fonts

When it comes to fonts there are two main types. serif fonts and sans serif fonts.

This would be an example of serif fonts, they are used for such things as letters and work their formal and are used for serious or important matters.

Sans serif fonts- theses fonts are a little laid back compared to Serif fonts, in contrast they are much more informal and you can use these type of fonts when writing to a friend or designing something playfull.

Types of fonts

Skills audit: livetype and soundtrack

In the lesson we were told to film a bag swap, trying to imitate the one from collateral, at the end of it all we used final cut pro to edit it.

Live type allows you to create your own funky exciting writing, by changing the font adding objects or text and using effects you can give your film that professional looking finish.

sound track allows you to create a specific type of music you want for your film, wether it be tension building you music or an up beat happy tune soundtrack os perfect, you can also add sounds such as footsteps or breathing to make things seem all the more professional.

Q3&4 Evaluation

youtube will be the best media institution to distribute any kind of media product and the amount of hits will attractive the audience, because they will automatically think that it is a good film because of the amount of hits that it has also the good feedback that it gets.
by doing this the internet could be used to further distribute and market the movie if they potentially reached a global audience.
The movie looks very professional
