In the film united 93 several different ways to build tension were used. In this film the director decided to use a real time account of the events on the United 93 and this in itself builds tension because throughout the film you never know when a turning point is going to come so it leaves you on edge. The use of camera work at the beginning also creates suspense, the shot reverse shots of the two terrorists at the beginning make you realize that they are going to do something but that shot makes you think that they are going to do it at the start of the movie and not towards the end. At the end of the film whilst the plane is crashing the camera switches from a pitch black screen to the scenery below then to the passengers fighting for control of the plane and this creates suspense because the audience does not no whether or not the plane will end up crashing or end up living. The scariest part of the film is the unpreparedness of the FAA and the military in dealing with the situation, which is also well-depicted here.
